Shane Smith’s Poker Tournament Tips From The Pros

I started playing poker about six years ago when one of my marketing clients gave me a free poker tournament entry during a conference in Las Vegas. I read a book titled “Ken Warren Teaches Texas Hold ‘em” on the airplane. The next day I went to Binion’s Horseshoe and asked the poker room staff to teach me to play the game. I sat next to the dealers as they coached me through the actions. I actually won over $100.00 during my very first live game, on a $2/$4 limit table. The next day I finished in the top 25% of the tournament field. It wasn’t a great showing but I felt pretty good about it and I knew I was hooked on this great game. My start in the game was somewhat improbable, yet here I am today making a decent income from my poker.

Learning poker takes a few hours but mastering the finer points of the game will take years, and indeed the learning continues for a lifetime. Most players never really advance beyond “average” in their poker playing ability. Those who play regularly, learn at every opportunity and remain committed to playing better can take their game to the upper 90% of all poker players. We may not all become recognizable names in the poker world, but we can certainly become fearsome competitors on the felt.

I created the username Drunk Blonde for several reasons. I want other players to know I’m female. Guys seem to never tire of challenging a woman – their male machismo kicks in and their brain disengages. I have won many a pot because of this. I also wanted to create a fun loving, silly character for my online poker play. I’m a girl who loves to have a good time, but believe me when I say I’m deadly serious at the poker table. Of course, I would never, ever drink alcoholic beverages while gambling. It is a just a character!

I created this site as an online poker journal because I find that writing about various poker concepts helps me to learn them more fully and internalize them. I get as much out of this as anyone else but I figured I might as well put it online and see if it can help someone else. I have a few affiliate links on the site to help pay for web hosting and my ever increasing poker library. I hope you find something helpful here. Please bookmark my site and visit again soon.
